XXVII General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union was held between 3-14 August in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This time in IAU GA there was a Special Session on IYA2009 which contained representing IYA2009 global projects.

Mariana Barrosa, IYA2009 Coordination Assistant, presented StarPeace as one of the IYA Special Projects on the first day of GA which had a good response from all who had attended the meeting.

But besides that, there was a StarPeace Summit on August 10 during IAU GA. On the Summit Marcelo de Oliveira Souza, StarPeace ambassador in Brazil talked about StarPeace Special Project.

StarPeace in IAU XXVII General Assembly

StarPeace main goals and initiatives, international collaborations and its joint events between countries around the world accompanying with various photos and a short movie from the Opening StarPeace event between Iran and United Arab Emirates made the presentation reached and impressive.

During the presentation Marcelo Souza talked about the role of astronomy to reach to the global peace and how StarPeace project is trying to show that there is no border between nations just like the stars and the sky which has no border on it. Marcelo Souza did the presentation with his strong and impressive talk and made it an important point for StarPeace project.

The conference was attended by delegates from different countries which included IYA projects’ chairs and SPoCs.
