The World Party for Space
Monday, March 16, 2009
Celebrate Yuri’s Night on Yuri’s week, from April 4th- 12th.

"Circling the Earth in my orbital spaceship I marveled at the beauty of our planet. People of the world, let us safeguard and enhance this beauty — not destroy it!" (Yuri Gagarin, 1st person in space)

48 years ago, on April 12, the first human went to space; Yuri Gagarin was the first man who leaved the bounds of Earth and saw the real Earth without borders from space. Yuri’s flight to outer space and orbiting the Earth make the Human Spaceflight a reality. At that time Yuri was only 27 years old.

To celebrate the humanity’s achievement in space, United Nations’ Space Generation Advisory Council planned Yuri’s Night, the World Party for Space. On April 12, 2001 the first party took place.

Each April 12, people from around the world hold the Yuri’s Night party. People come together to mark the anniversary of Yuri Gagarin’s first flight into space (in 1961) and the first launch of the US Space Shuttle (in 1981). For this year, until now 107 parties from 33 countries will be held from April 4th- 12th.

Everyone is invited! StarPeace groups could hold Yuri’s Night party at the same time in their countries to make a big bridge between our nations. Join Yuri’s Night in celebrating our past–and our future–in outer space! Register your group here.
